IPSC Handgun Divisions
Several types of equipment are used in the sport. These types of equipment are called "divisions". All divisions shoot the same stages during matches. The ranking is calculated according to the divisions.
Open
- Optical sight permitted
- Compensators permitted
- No minimum trigger pull
- No maximum size of firearm
- No restriction on the positioning of the firearm on the belt
- Major (most popular) and minor power factor

Standard
- Optical sight prohibited
- Compensators prohibited
- No minimum trigger pull
- Dimension limits (must fit in standardize IPSC box)
- The firearm on the belt must be behind the hip bone
- Major (most popular) and minor power factor

Classic
- Optical sight prohibited
- Compensators prohibited
- No minimum trigger pull
- Dimension limits (must fit in standardize IPSC box)
- The firearm on the belt must be behind the hip bone
- Major (most popular) and minor power factor
- Must be based on and visibly resemble the classic 1911

Production
- Optical sight prohibited
- Compensators prohibited
- Minimum trigger pull 2.27 kg. (5 lbs.) for first shot or 1.36 kg. (3 lbs.) for every shot
- The firearm on the belt must be behind the hip bone
- Minor power factor only
- Firearm must be approved by IPSC

Production Optics
